Zac Posen’s latest collection hit the runway this weekend offers a series of old Hollywood glamour looks. The pre-fall 2009 collection is a rich array jewel tones inspired by women’s fashion in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

Posen widely borrows from the past: fur boas, horizontal cascades of satin fringe, French berets and sheer gauzy hats- not to mention the appearance of leopard print and the models’ styling in classic Monroe curls. This one’s an easy collection to love with its safe vintage vibe.

Yet some of the inclusions seem out of place, like the turquoise fringe-winged printed dress (below.)

While this dress is lovely on its own, it feels odd alongside satin monotone glamour girls and swishy flapper layers. Even the fringes look heavier here than on any other gown and the print, while beautifully native inspired, is unlike anything else in the collection.

Zac Posen is quoted as saying that this collection is a return to “fundamentals” and that “it’s about recycling glamour.” With its fur trim and animal print, it’s probably safe to say that this won’t be mistaken for an eco-collection.
